Website designer’s should learn what’s under the hood

by Noel Wiggins

In this day and age with wordpress being so popular and “stable” and solutions like jquery, designers can appear to be a lot stronger than they really are.

A few years ago so much of the back-end programming that is so easy to get today was not in existence. Most anything you wanted to achieve you had to do from scratch, nowadays that ain’t so.

With all this functionality so easy to get ahold of, it makes me wonder if designers are benefiting from the accessibility?

Are they relying to heavy on other folks to develop the functionality for them to use in their web development. I have to admit I love the plugins and jquery tools that can add dynamic rich functionality to my websites or help establish the wow factor. But I have to say that I have taken a solid look at the technology that is behind this functionality.

It’s one thing to download a plugin or snippets from the jquery library, but what happens when these elements are in conflict with each other, or they don’t seen to function exactly the way you intended?…

Which is why I believe that you should learn the foundation behind every piece of technology and try and get to the point where you can create something from scratch for yourself. The results are extremely rewarding, and the knowledge learned can help trouble shoot that time saving element you downloaded that is working right…
