Website design guide for busy marketers & business owners

Here are some things to consider when starting a website design project.

1) You are experts in your company, and you will be responsible for delivering great content and how well the designs will speak to the target audience. Great design starts with great content, if you have limited resources on being able to generate this great content then consider hiring a professional writer

2) The more planning and preparing the flow of your website the better the design of your website will be. The content you provide from the start the smoother the process. Try and think through the entire web process will help the design phase.

3) Stakeholders. Get everyone who will make the final decisions involved early. Getting everyone on the same page from start to finish will ensure the project will run smoothly.

4) Stay on schedule, you and your designer will have milestone to stay on up to date with to launch by a specific date, design studios work on multiple projects at one time, and if your timeline gets off track you may loose your spot which will result in a delay the launch date.

5) Rounds of revisions, The more accurate your direction, content and feedback will result in limited rounds of revisions. If you are engaged in a website design on a flat rate basis rounds of revisions can be costly. Change of Direction is when you have approved a phase of the project then at a later date will change your mind or want to see something new. Change of Scope is when you start adding new features and new projects to the project that wasn’t apart of the original plan. A design studio wants to accommodate any of these changes, just be aware additional costs will occur.

If you suspect your website is more involved and not so simple to gather the content, then consider working on a time and material basis instead of a flat rate.
