Partnering with others that market to your same audience

by Noel Wiggins

I recently was recently presented with the opportunity to partner with a group that has a team of sales professionals. The pitch was that they would use my services as a new product offering to their existing clients. Which sounds great to me, I get a professional sales force out there pushing my services while they get a new product offering they can use to up-sale the client. It sounds like a win win, which potentially it will. My only de-lima is that its in an industry where I have limited experience, There are three main industry sectors I believe I could excel in and thats, Spa’s, The Moving and Storage Industry, Event Marketing, and small businesses and unique pet projects. And this pitch was for the golfing industry. Which is completely new to me, and I would love to grow my business in the future with this opportunity, but I fear the learning curve will take almost a year or more of dedicated time, that is pretty rare while trying to build the current sales funnel.

This got me thinking though that if this sales force is itching to have a new reason to call on a client and need something new to sell, then why not reach out to these similar industries to see if they would be interested in doing the same as the golf folks. Its probably a long shot but sound like something that would be worth a try, the more resources I have out pushing my design services the more projects I believe I will win. So I think I will be doing a little research into what types of similar business market and may potentially have a l client base with established relationships with that may be looking for more products they could offer and earn commisions on.

I know that a lot of you that read this blog have your own business and would have an opinion on whether you would think this approach would be fruitful or not, and I would love to hear those opinions.
