A source for graphic design inspiration has been in front of me all this time and I never really considered it until this morning. I was checking some trending stats this morning on the social media metrics system from pr newswire, The leader in pr news , trying to locate what sources have graphic design as a hot topic, trying to see where all the buzz is. To my surprise it was flickr! the runners up where a surprise as well, being that it was answers.yahoo and amazon, I would imagine amazon was showing up due to the holiday season and people buying books for their friends and such. But flickr, I knew that people uploaded designs to flickr which I always thought was fun being that flickr by nature is designed for photographs, but it makes since to me that it would showcase design work.

I decided to give it a try and searched graphic design on flickr and boy did a tremendous amount of inspirada came up. It had the usual suspects Russion Constructavism, Paul Rand and of course Sagmeister, but I was really moved by the collection and potential of coming here when I am in need of wanting to design something truly great. every time I see great work like these samples, I get a fire under my ass to try and push myself even more, and try and tap into what would make me as great as these others. I may never achieve it but if I work at it I hope to come close.

Most clients may not understand this drive or push we designers have to try and do something great within their project, but we designers do, when you hire a professional graphic designer to design your website you may be thinking you are simply hiring someone who has the “technical” know how to design your project, but to the designer it means so much more, You are giving them the chance to practice their “craft” giving them an actual paying project that can help the electricity burning for that $5000 macintosh with that thousands of dollars worth of fonts, and software, your giving them a chance to try and push themselves creatively allowing them a small chance to create something truly great.

And for all you non designers out there, hire one to do your next project, and let them have the freedom to do something truly great for you, You will get your project done, to meet your deadline but if this project is designed right it will have a life that goes far beyond the deadline.
