Marketing St Patrick’s Day During The Holiday Season?

by Noel Wiggins

The holiday season is in full swing, and you’re thinking green. If you are contemplating the green of holly and ribbons and not St Patrick’s Day, then you are in trouble.

Smart marketers are always planning ahead. Consider this: a comprehensive marketing campaign, from online to offline and all points in between, can take up to months or even years to prepare. Your competitors may be taking that long-term view. Are you?

Based on an unscientific sampling, I’ve concluded that many marketers are not only running behind, but are also living in a fantasy world where time stops because they’ve dropped the ball.

It’s December, and I have clients who tell me they’ve got to get a holiday promotion out quickly. It becomes an expensive rush job that still is too late to have a positive impact on sales.

No Pun has decided it’s time for marketers to take back time. We want to help clients and prospects know when they should start thinking about a promotion or a campaign. If enough time is incorporated into the planning process, then the campaign can be supported by research and development, thoughtful and effective creative and distribution through the right media – not just what’s available at the last minute. Not only is the campaign more effective but the marketer can save lots when not subjected to rush order fees.

Our first aid for frantic marketers is the No Pun marketing calendar that shows 12-week lead times for all the major US holidays. That means that planning should begin now for St. Patrick’s Day, April Fools Day and graduation season campaigns. Forget about St. Valentine’s Day initiatives. It’s already late to capitalize on Cupid.

But No Pun won’t just leave you with a calendar and wish you luck. It will provide ideas, too. We’ll be collecting sample promotions from all types of companies to provide you with the ideas and inspiration that will help you develop a solid campaign.
