I often get fascinated when I hear how “design” can effluence a buyer to do something. As a designer I want to say that it can but I have to say the more and more I think about it I am not convinced that silhouetting images combining them with some graphical elements or textures matched with fonts a color could really be that powerful.
One thing that I can agree with is the power of color when it is used in a bold fashion. But when done subtlety I think colors can picked at minimum.

I just read a blog that I found interesting. It showcases the importance of “whitespace” in design.
If you have to ask yourself what is “white space” then your not alone. Most clients have no clue about the ideas that a professional designer is passionate about. As I was reading and agreeing with the article, I couldn’t help to think if I designed the way I was passionate about I wouldn’t get much work approved.

A source for graphic design inspiration has been in front of me all this time and I never really considered it until this morning. I was checking some trending stats this morning on the social media metrics system from pr newswire, The leader in pr news , trying to locate what sources have graphic design as a hot topic, trying to see where all the buzz is. To my surprise it was flickr! the runners up where a surprise as well, being that it was answers.yahoo and amazon, I would imagine amazon was showing up due to the holiday season and people buying books for their friends and such. But flickr, I knew that people uploaded designs to flickr which I always thought was fun being that flickr by nature is designed for photographs, but it makes since to me that it would showcase design work.

The most important element in graphic design is the grid. No matter what kind of layout you are putting together, it has to have a grid to start with. As I was starting out as a graphic design major at SVA, this was echoed in every class, where the teacher would actually try and see the grid used in the layout, and if it was clear you didn’t use one, they would strip you naked and beat you with a ruler in-front of every in the class. (they probably didn’t say anything, but the ridicule still felt the same).
