I came across a blog post today that goes into some great details on why you should Meet accessibility requirements in your website design.

Web accessibility isn’t really a concern for the client that hires a website designer, its more for the concern of the website designer. But, the client should be aware that some designers don’t design for accessibility in mind. From the look of the design it may be hard to tell, you may see the final design and say “looks good to me” But then put your web address into these accessibility tools to see if your website passes the test.

Why should I be concerned with website accessibility?

The most practical reason or most business related reason is search engines check to see if your website passes, and can penalize your site which effects your page ranking score. Which I have to admit was the primary reason for why I looked into making my sites accessible.

But the real reason for this is that handicapped folks can experience your website just like the non handicapped folks can. This is such a hot topic that in the UK it is law, that you website be compliant. But aside from it being a law it just seems like a good thing to do to make sure your site is accessible to everyone…

There is a ton of geeky stuff in this post and chances are may be too boring for you to look into. But personally I find it useful and really like this “wave” tool.
